Finding a Good Detox Tea
A cup of detox tea is a refreshing and easy way to introduce cleansing herbs into your diet. You can find many varieties of herbal teas in regular and online health food stores and many of them will even specify "detox" or "cleanse" on the package. Here are a few important tips in making your selection: - Choose only loose or bulk herbs.
Teabags may contain chemical residue from the processing of the paper. If the package indicates that the paper is unbleached and untreated paper, then you can use it. But in general, the freshest and most potent cleansing teas are those from the freshly ground and loose packed herb. So stay with loose bulk herbs!
- Get a tea ball, or a small spoon-shaped infuser.
Pack the loose herbs into it and then steep them in boiling water. If you don't want stray flakes floating in your tea, you'll need a strainer also. You can get the tea ball and infuser at your local health food store, or online. Follow the directions on the package for how best to prepare the tea. Most herbal teas require two to five minutes of steeping in boiling or hot water for maximum taste and effectiveness and the package should give specific instructions for this. Look for a good detox tea to contain one or more of the following: - Cascara sagrada (this is a strong intestinal cleanser), don't use in excess)
- or combinations of these herbs with other herbs
such as alfalfa, chamomile, marshmallow or ginseng
