Jun 9, Day 7 of my 21-Day Cleanse (amazing)

The view from Day 7 of my 21-day detox cleanse is looking good, unlike last week, when every day I wondered if I would make it to the 21-day finishing mark this time.

The same day that I began the cleanse I also began to have a slight urinary tract infection. It was EXTREMELY uncomfortable. It's bad enough I have to go to the bathroom more during the cleanse, and with the infection things got really hairy. At one point I just camped out in the bathroom for a while.

On top of that, I had a headache for three days. I usually have a headache on one day of a cleanse, so this was a bit much to deal with along with the infection! I thought of stopping the cleanse, but I know how disappointing that would have felt. And I know how hard it is to schedule 21 days in a row that are suitable for a major cleansing of this nature.

So I stuck with it. Now the infection is gone, my headache is gone, and I am feeling really well again! Well enough to go out for a brisk morning walk and my normal daily activities.

For anyone who has not followed this blog, I do the Standard Process 21-Day Purification Program where I take supplements, a protein smoothie, and lots of organic fruits and vegetables. It is a very thorough cleanse and it is quite gentle (except for the first couple of days when I felt like I was put through a wringer). This is a great cleanse; it does not leave you feeling starved, wasted, shaky, weak or any of the other feelings that shorter, more extreme cleanses may produce. Be back later!

May 24, Detox Pad "Scam" Debunked!

There has been a lot of negative backlash about the detox pads lately. Maybe I'm just noticing it more because the skeptics and naysayers have been around since Day 1 of this wonderful product. I have read a lot of negative things and yet I can say that not ONE of them was backed up by concrete, reliable research. It is also obvious from all these uninformed diatribes that none of these people ever even tried the detox pads. None of them ever checked forums to see how many thousands of people are being helped by them. Everyone's entitled to their own opinion but it would be nice (for once) if the opinion were well researched. Which leaves me to say just one thing to the skeptics and naysayers: The detox pads do work. I did my homework. Why don't you do yours?

May 1, Planning my 21-day spring detox diet

It's May 1st, so I am planning when to start my 21-day detox diet. This is my annual "spring cleaning" and it's a 3-week affair, so I have to really think ahead. I was going to start today, but I have two dinners to attend this weekend and I don't feel like bringing a contained of steamed veggies to them. Then there's Mother's Day when I'll be making a big dinner for Mom, which I will want to enjoy too, so that's out.
Next likely time is to start middle to end of May. It's always best to do a cleanse during warm or hot weather, and during a time when there are no dinner parties or holidays. You avoid temptation, and can plan for slower, less active days which place less strain on your body. Taking a long look at the calendar is also part of my mental preparation for my cleanse. Three weeks is demanding, so the better I prepare, the more successful it will be.

Apr 13, "20/20" Show Was Nearsighted

The piece done by John Stossel on 20/20 the other night was absurd. The piece reviewed detox pads, specifically, Kinoki, which are a cheap brand made in China and marketed on cable TV. The information was presented in an obviously biased manner - from the start John Stossel sarcastically referred to "toxins in our bodies" with a smirk. It was evident the detox pads were going to be debunked. However, a lot of the material presented by the so-called "expert" was wrong. One, you DO detox through the skin; it is the largest organ of detoxification in the human body. Two, the fact that the pads turn brown under tap water is not proof whether they work, one way or the other (and I am so tired of the tap water debunking effort - I have been hearing that from skeptics for five years - and it proves absolutely nothing - they couldn't be more creative than to mention that one?)

Finally, their lab tests showewd that Kinoki pads did not draw out any toxins. But did anyone notice the toxins they were looking for -- that list was not a comprehensive list. It was a selective list of what the pads do NOT remove. In effect, the show itself, was a scam.

As for the panel of customers who claimed Kinoki did not help them -- there are always a few people who don't respond well to alternative products. For the sake of objectivity, why didn't Stossel invite some people who actually benefited from the pads? In my business, over the past five years, I have to say that positive reports outnumber negative ones by a ratio of about 150:1 if not higher.

And I wish they had tested Kenrico pads, which I think far outshine Kinoki in quality of manufacture and ingredient. Kenrico religiously tests their pads and has a good track record of proving that their pads do draw out harmful toxins. But then 20/20 wouldn't have been able to debunk the pads, which was their purpose from the outset.

I wouldn't really expect a corporate dominated media to jump on the bandwagon to support such an unusual alternative product. But I would expect them to at least conduct a fair and unbiased investigation, which they thoroughly failed to do.

Apr 3, I messed up my Perfect Cleanse

My last post talked about my trial of the 10-day Perfect Cleanse detox program. It sounded like a very easy, light 10-day cleanse which required only taking some supplements and a detox drink before and after dinner and before bed. Like the detox pads, the cleanse works while you sleep - perfect, I thought!

Except that life got in the way. After the first 3 days of the cleanse, which went very smoothly, I ended up having to take antibiotics after some dental surgery, so I postponed the cleanse intending to finish the 7 days the week after. I figured that was best so that I could finish the antibiotic and then cleanse the drug residue out of my system and take some probiotics too.

I restarted Day 4 but then went away overnight and forgot to pack the supplements. So while my experience with Perfect Cleanse was a very pleasant one, I can't evaluate it in all honesty because I did it in an imperfect manner.

Yet the experience was worthwhile, because anyone doing a cleanse faces these challenges - sometimes you forget, and sometimes life events call for other priorities.

It made me appreciate the detox patches all the more, because they are so easy and if you forget to wear them one night, just put them back on the next.

I still plan to do another Perfect Cleanse very soon so I can evaluate the product for possible sale to our customers. But I'll bear in mind that while the Cleanse may be Perfect, I am not! Hopefully next time the 10 days will be more conducive to doing the whole 10-day program on time.

Best,
Barb

Jan 11, Grapefruit Detox Pads are Back!

It seems everyone's New Years resolution for 2008 is to lose weight. So I am bringing back the grapefruit detox weight loss pads for a limited time. I think I have enough to last the month of January. These pads give a very good detox, and help with weight loss too [you HAVE to be dieting, though, the pads will not take the weight off for you!] The nicest thing is the delightful citrus fragrance that they give off. When I opened the box from the manufacturer it filled my office with a lovely citrus scent. Now I can get an aromatherapy treatment while I work!
