Why grapefruit diets can help with weight loss

Grapefruit is a powerful addition to any weight loss detox plan. It is high in dietary fiber and helps to lower cholesterol levels. Grapefruit is also high in pectin, which reduces insulin secretions in the blood by reducing the rate at which carbs and sugars enter your bloodstream. We know that maintaining a stable blood sugar level is essential to weight loss. An unstable blood sugar leads to overeating and binging on carbohydrates, not to mention, very strong cravings for forbidden foods.

According to a recent study co-sponsored by the Florida Department of Citrus, grapefruit helps lower your cholesterol and reduce the danger of atherosclerosis. So grapefruit definitely belongs of the list of healthy ingredients for your weight loss detox diet plan. If you have been seeking grapefruit diet information on the web, you'll note there is a 12 day grapefruit diet, a 3 day diet and even a 21 day diet. We favor the longer diets because we do not believe in "crash" dieting. It is unhealthy for the body and actually can drain you of energy. Grapefruit diet plan

If you follow this grapefruit diet plan faithfully for 14 days you should experience some weight loss. We have listed three full days worth of possible foods. You can mix and match any meals; these are just to give you ideas for your 14-day grapefruit diet menu. The two musts are to drink plenty of pure or spring water all day long, and to always have either a half grapefruit with every meal or a small glass of grapefruit juice. Also read the DO's and DONT's below to round out your grapefruit diet plan. This diet is quite liberal with the amounts of vegetables and fruits you can have, as long as you have a half grapefruit or glass of grapefruit juice with every meal! It is also optional to have coffee or tea with every meal; pure spring water is best. The original grapefruit diet plan used in the testimonial included coffee or tea so we replicated the diet exactly as it was done. We however recommend organic coffee and herbal tea only, with water being the most healthful beverage.

    Breakfast
Day 1:2 eggs or egg whites, poached, hard or soft-boiled
2 strips lean bacon
1 cup black coffee or plain tea [optional; organic only]
One half grapefruit or 4 oz pure grapefruit juice
One glass of water

Day 2:1 cup cottage cheese or yogurt
1 orange or apple
1 cup black coffee or plain tea [organic only, optional]
One half grapefruit or 4 oz. grapefruit juice
One glass of water

Day 3:1 cup oatmeal
One medium apple or orange or banana
1 slice bacon or 1/2 cup cottage cheese
One half grapefruit or 4 oz. grapefruit juice

    Lunch
Day 1: Baked or broiled chicken breast
Small salad with mixed greens, romaine, tomato, cucumber, sprouts, celery, carrots, with 1 tbl. low-fat salad dressing or plain safflower oil and vinegar dressing
1 cup black coffee or plain tea
One half grapefruit or 4 oz. grapefruit juice
One glass of water

Day 2: Baked or broiled flounder, tilapia, salmon, scrod, or codfish
1 cup steamed broccoli
One half grapefruit or 4 oz. grapefruit juice
1 cup black coffee or plain tea
One glass of water

Day 3: 1 cup tuna fish or tuna salad, chicken salad, or egg salad (all light on the mayo or using low-fat mayonnaise)
1 slice wheat or rye toast
1 medium apple, orange or pear, or 1/2 cup berries or cherries
1 cup black coffee or plain tea
One half grapefruit of 4 oz. grapefruit juice
One glass of water

    Dinner

Day 1: Baked or broiled breast of chicken, turkey, capon or other poultry
1 cup steamed green beans or stringbeans
1 cup steamed cabbage, zucchini, collards, turnip or spinach greens, beets, cauliflower, tomatoes, turnips, okra, kale, or spinach
One half grapefruit or 4 oz. grapefruit juice
1 cup black coffee or plain tea
One glass of water

Day 2: One lean strip steak, Swiss steak, or other lean beef, including broiled or grilled hamburger
Small green salad with salad vegetables as listed above
One half grapefruit or 4 oz. grapefruit juice
1 cup black coffee or plain tea
One glass water

Day 3: Grilled, broiled or poached salmon, tilapia, flounder, swordfish steak, halibut, cod, mackerel, tuna steak
1 cup fresh peaches, plums, pears, apples
One half grapefruit or 4 oz. grapefruit juice
1 cup black coffee or plain tea
One glass of water

Nighttime snack: no later than 3 hours prior to bedtime

One 8 oz. glass of skim or low fat milk, warm or cool

DON’T’S: Fried food, foods cooked in batter or gravy or cream sauce, dairy products other than the night time milk or cottage cheese, bread other than 1 slice as indicated, pastries, donuts, bagels, cookies, pizza, wine, beer, alcoholic beverages in general, legumes like beans or peas other than string beans or green beans as listed, candy, and other common sense items like ice cream which we all know are DONT'S!!

DO's: Walk or exercise regularly, drink 48-60 oz. of pure water daily, DO have the grapefruit juice or fruit with EVERY meal, DO deep breathing and relaxation when possible.

Maintain this diet for 14 days and you should expect to lose weight. The weight loss is variable depending on your size, lifestyle, and your dedication to this program. I am an average sized woman who was about 10 pounds overweight when I did this diet. I lost exactly 15 pounds and felt fantastic afterward!
