Detox Diet Plans
It takes thought and preparation to decide which detox diet plans may be best for you. Once you have selected a particular diet plan you need to shop for specific foods, and then you have to prepare your kitchen and refrigerator so that you can follow the diet without too much temptation. You should plan a detox diet for a time when you won't face too many changes to your regular schedule, like parties, weddings, vacations, etc. All in all, the best laid detox diet plans of mice and men often go astray if there is insufficient thought or planning given to the process! Here are the Do's and Dont's of effective detox diets.
The DO's of detox diet plans
- DO take a calendar and go through it week by week to plan a good time in advance. Mental preparation is a big part of any successful health regimen. Mark the specific days you will be on the diet and when you will complete it.
- DO start the regimen on days off from work. It is very natural to feel weak, tired, headachey, or even a bit nauseous when you first begin to detox. Allow yourself a day of rest and relative privacy. Usually the discomfort lasts only the first day or so into the diet, until your body acclimates to it.
- DO drink at least 36-48 ounces of pure spring water every day of your detox diet. It will also help you lose weight!
- DO get rid of all snacks and junk foods from the kitchen and fridge before you begin your diet. It will be easier to refrain from temptation.
- DO eat organic foods if at all possible, to avoid the chemicals found in commercially grown fruits and vegetables. Those chemicals are one reason for having detox diet plans in the first place!
- DO cleanse your fruits and vegetables before eating to remove any chemicals or pesticides. A teaspoonful of CLOROX bleach in a half-gallon of water makes an excellent antibacterial wash for your produce. Then rinse the produce off with running water.
- DO have free-range beef or poultry if you want, or wild caught seafood, broiled, poached, or steamed only.
- DO allow yourself snacks during a detox diet. Keep celery sticks, carrot sticks, almonds, grapes, apples, and other small vegetables and fruits around for a quick snack. Apples are desirable because they help to balance blood sugar and remove cravings.
- DO keep a journal every day of your detox diet! You want to cleanse on every level: physical, mental, and emotional. Write down exactly what you want to clear out of your life. Taking action with a physical detox will also initiate a mental detox. If you are making the effort to cleanse junk from your body, why not seize the opportunity to cleanse yourself of toxic feelings, thoughts, relationships that drain your energy? After cleansing all these negative things from your life you will have the energy and stamina to go after what you truly want out of life!

The DON'TS of detox diet plans
- DON'T eat fried foods, foods with gravies or cream sauces.
- DON'T have anything containing white sugar or white flour. This includes candies, breads, packaged processed meals, pastries, soda beverages, cake, yogurt, ice cream, granola bars, protein bars, or crackers.
- DON'T beat yourself up if you make a mistake or give in to temptation. Just get back on your detox diet. Are you expecting perfection from yourself? That need alone can create negative thoughts and feelings. "Food" for thought ...
- DON'T have a lot of foods from packages. Processed foods contain synthetic chemicals and preservatives. Try to get as much fresh and raw food as possible into your diet.
- DON'T keep a super fast-paced lifestyle during a cleanse. Your body is recovering from junk, and it needs rest and care. That's why we recommend not scheduling a detox diet during a particularly busy or stressful time.
While doing your research, you may come across the Master Cleanse Diet, also called the "lemonade diet." This is a specific detox/weight loss plan which can be done for three days, five days, ten days or more. The versatility of this diet has made it very popular over the years and the book [now available in e-book format] is a perennial best-seller. The Master Cleanse Diet e-book contains 100+ pages which thoroughly describe this detox diet plan. This diet plan has been in existence since the early 1940s when it was conceived of by Stanley Burroughs, an alternative health practitioner who believed in the body's innate ability to heal itself. The e-book provides useful information about detox diets in general and explains the Master Cleanse Diet in great detail, including the diet ingredients and their preparation. The author pulls no punches in this book. She clearly sets forth the possible shortcomings of this cleanse, such as hunger pangs, headaches, and nausea, which are temporary but common experiences on many serious detox diets. Benefits of the Master Cleanse Diet include renewed energy, improved digestion, better sleep, more efficient immune function, bowel regularity, clearer skin, a brighter outlook on life, and weight loss. The appeal of the Master Cleanse Diet is its versatility. The cleanse may be done for only a couple of days up to 10 or more days (longer periods not recommended for the newcomer to detoxification programs). You can also substitute the lemonade drink for one meal a day and eat sensibly for the other two meals and still experience benefits.
